Her bosom heaved at an alarming rate as his rough hand found its way down to her soft, yet wiry briar patch…

Can you say briar patch in a romance novel? What about meat sword? That’s what it is…a meat sword, right, all meaty and sword like, slaying through the inner dungeons of a woman’s dark desires. What about breasts? Do bosoms really heave?

God, I have no idea what happens when private parts touch.

I’m a virgin trying to write a romance novel and can’t seem to write past a sex scene thanks to my lack of experience.

My two best friends encourage me to drop the pen for a while and gain some real life practice through multiple dating facets such as blind dates, online profiles, and random hookups.

                    But losing my virginity is proving to be tougher than expected…

I received an ARC of the book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I am a very new member of NetGalley and a few days ago, I’d read the review of The Virgin Romance Novelist on my friend, Pavitra’s blog who had some really good things to say about it. Hence, after joining the site, it was the first book who’s ARC I requested and even though I wasn’t expecting my request to be accepted (due to me being a new book blogger :p ). So I was absolutely delighted to find this book in my dashboard and started to read it immediately. 😀

The first thing that had attracted me to this book was it’s cover and the very catchy title.[yeah, I can be superficial at times. Shoot me!] I mean, who wouldn’t want to read about a romance novelist who has never experienced anything remotely romantic? Well, yeah, the concept did it for me and I was totally intrigued.

Now in this book, as the name suggests, we have this extremely naive and sexually inexperienced protagonist, Rosie Bloom’ who wants to be a romance novelist but is facing a very hard time writing a proper sex scene thanks to her lack of any practical knowledge in that department.

Rosie here shares an apartment with her two best friends (two very sexual creatures, I must say) – The very confident and bold Delaney who is having, talking, thinking sex all the freaking day, and Henry, incredibly sexy but the classic man-slut who bangs anything in a skirt. So, Rosie’s two friends make it their mission to help their poor lil’ virgin friend at finally loosing her v-card.

In this book, we come across a heroine who is absolutely clueless about the world of sexuality. The only knowledge she has  had about sex is from her mother’s hidden stash of dirty romance novels, which were mostly from the 80s and 90s and had descriptions of penises and vaginas as swords and flower garden. Hence, while writing a romance novel, her attempts at writing sex scenes had me in splits. Her old school way of describing sex was absolutely hilarious!!

So, in order update her non-existent knowledge in that particular area, Rosie gets a helluva lot of sex education from her friends. Sex toys, porn, brazillian wax, oral sex, various shapes and sizes of penises and balls,…and the list just gets longer. Each incident is more amusing than the other. Whenever before I have read a scene where a girl gets brazillian waxing done, it just makes me cringe, but gosh, Rosie’s hysteria was described in such a funny way, I couldn’t stop laughing. :p

However, as Rose goes through a string of good, bad and disastrous dates and the entire thing starts getting serious, Henry’s deep hidden feelings begins to come to surface. The equation between the two best friends starts changing. The lines of friendship blurs, wreaking havoc in Rosie’s life,  leaving her more confused than ever.

I completely adored Henry and Rosie’s relationship. The unspoken affection and comfort level between them was so sweet.Their camaraderie between them was so much fun to read. I just couldn’t get enough of their moments. And oh, the sexual tension, what do I say about that? The all-consuming desire, the heated stares, the slight touches, the hesitation…it was so passionate..*sigh*…And have you ever come across a sex scene that has made you howl with laughter and feel hot all over at the same time? Well, if not, this book will be your first as it was mine. The sex scene between Rosie and Henry was as sexy as it was witty!! I loved them so much.

The Virgin Romance Novelist was a stunningly delightful, hilarious, adorable read which every bookworm who enjoys New-Adult contemporary genre of books will love! 😀

The author, Meghan Quinn has done a brilliant Job with this book. She has described some of the misconceptions that romance novel readers, who are virgins sometimes have in the most rib-ticking way. She created some wonderful and unforgettable character and her writing style is extremely impressive. I would definitely love to read more of her works in future. 🙂

My Rating – ★★★★ 1/2

Review || Accidentally on Purpose by L.D. Davis

|| BLURB ||

Emmy thinks her boss Kyle Sterling of Sterling Corporations is a jerk.

So, she sleeps with him.

Emmy tries to put the mistake behind her, but then finds herself snowed in with Kyle. As the snow builds, so does the heat in the house between the two. The problem is that Kyle has a steady girlfriend that he is unwilling to break up with. Emmy cuts Kyle off and starts dating Luke. Even as their relationship takes off, Emmy is finding Kyle hard to shake. He is blatant in his feelings and desires for Emmy, putting her in an awkward situation. She tries hard to resist Kyle, but deep down inside Emmy’s motives are shady. When Emmy succumbs to her hidden feelings for Kyle without setting Luke free, devastating consequences ensue.

In addition to her two men, Emmy daydreams about doing violent things to her loud mouthed, opinionated mother.

With some humor and sarcasm, and of course, some tequila, Emmy’s world will flip upside down as she deals with the results of “accidentally on purpose” falling for two men at once.

|| REVIEW ||

This is the first book of the Accidentally on Purpose Trilogy.

When you read the blurb of the book , you think – This is another one of those typical erotic workplace romance where a girl falls for her boss and lots of love triangle drama happens and yadda yada yada! So very usual…

In case you’ve had any such notions about this particular book, let me tell you, you’ll be in for a big surprise!
This is one astonishingly unpredictable and emotion invoking book! The characters in this story are absolutely relatable because they are so heavily flawed!
Emmy was a cheating, two-timing bitch….who made so many mistakes, and hurt others as well as herself due to her wrong decisions! There were moments when I wanted to smack her hard for her stupidity, cowardice and lack of a strong character! But the way her life alters due to her own choices…she suffers in the hands of fate, I just want to hug and comfort her! She was so real, so human with all her faults! The gradual evolution of her as a person was beautifully portrayed…

Then comes the love triangle and the two men involved. Kyle and Luke.
This had to be the most confusing and frustrating love triangle I’ve ever come across! Both Kyle and Luke had their own set of flaws and issues…but admittedly, I was always a Luke shipper! I hated the way he had his heart broken by Emmy and the pain he had to endure because of her selfish actions… Obviously, he wasn’t perfect either! He’d said some extremely hurtful things and had hurt Emmy with his words and actions but ultimately he was an absolute sweetheart! He loved Emmy with all his heart and was a gem of a person!

With Kyle, I rather had a love-hate relationship till the end! Another majorly flawed character he was. There were times I wanted to cuddle him tightly and never let go… and moments when I wanted to kill him with my bare hands! He was also a coward, a spoilt brat and very insensitive sometimes! But he had a good heart and he did love Emmy despite every wrong he had done to her. I cursed him, hurt for him, and totally fell in love with him!

In fact all the characters in this book were totally amazing, realistic and relatable! Emmy’s family, friends, her relationship with them and also Luke’s family was true and heartfelt.

The ending was marvelous and I really had tears in my eyes by the time I was done reading this brilliant book!

I won’t spoil this book by putting on any kind of spoiler because the beauty of this story is in the way in unflurs.

My Rating – ★★★★
